Oncology Nursing
Oncology Nursing is a specialized field of nursing dedicated to the care of patients with cancer. Oncology nurses play an essential role in the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing support for individuals affected by cancer. Their expertise extends from administering chemotherapy and managing side effects to providing emotional support to patients and their families.
Key Roles of Oncology Nurses:
Patient Education and Counseling
- Educates patients and families about cancer types, treatment plans, and potential side effects.
- Provides guidance on lifestyle adjustments to manage side effects and improve quality of life.
Administration of Treatments
- Safely administers chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiation, and other cancer treatments.
- Monitors patients during treatment for adverse reactions and intervenes when necessary
Symptom Management
- Assesses and manages pain, nausea, fatigue, and other symptoms related to cancer and its treatment.
- Implements strategies for physical and emotional symptom relief.
Emotional and Psychological Support
- Offers support and counseling to help patients cope with the stress and anxiety of cancer diagnoses and treatment.
